Attributing the child's size to breastfeeding is pretty ridiculous. 20 feedings doesn't seem excessive to me when you throw in comfort and nighttime nursings. I'd be very surprised if this doesn't turn out to be a metabolism or other medical issue contributing to his weight.

Another thing that bothered me is how they said his weight was affecting his ability to crawl and stand. Many babies don't hit those milestones by 8 months...

that picture of lyndsee totally reminds me of ava as a baby. she had soooo many rolls. :) i'll have to share a then and now picture sometime too.

as for the article - it's hard to form an opinion cuz they don't give a lot of info. it seems to be out there for shock value. i really don't think nursing 20 times a day sounds like all that much if you factor in nighttime nursing. a lot of times may be just for a minute or two. i'll be curious to see if the baby slims down a lot once he's mobile, but if he's too big to crawl (as they suggest), then i don't know what's going to happen. i don't think restricting breastfeeding is the answer though.

I don't have much to say on the breastfeeding issue but that is one big baby! I think it will be a cause for concern when he is too big to physically learn to walk or crawl, and this very well be a medical condition.

I'm just dumb-founded over the comment from New Jersey, especially when they say we need to start feeding our children healthy, sensible foods. What do they think, that the mother was supplementing her breastfeeding with McDonalds?

The article itself doesn't say much more than the barest of facts. There could be a medical condition involved, but that's not mentioned as being explored or as a possibility. Frankly, it sounds to me like someone wanting to give breastfeeding a bad name. I know breastfeeding is all about supply and demand, but at 20 times a day does her body really have a chance to make so much as to give him a full feeding every time? I agree, Jen, he's probably comfort-nursing, which my daughter does plenty of with no problem for either of us.
