UPS Teams Up With Toys for Tots for Literacy Campaign

We all love UPS and we all love Toys for Tots so it was only right for them to team up together to provide books to the less fortunate children in the Toys for Tots Literacy Campaign.

I was honored to be able to help kick-off this campaign right here in the Triangle Area of NC. I grabbed my partner in crime here Carolina Mama and we brainstormed our thoughts and pulled off a fun kick-off party. First off, our children each created their own flyers to hand out to their friends to have them join us for the party. The girls were so excited to go to the UPS Store and make copies of their creations and best part, they were colored copies!

Each UPS Store also had a donation box at the counter for everyone to donate money to help Toys for Tots to reach all these unfortunate children. In exchange for a donation, children can receive fun activity sheets.

One-hundred percent of all proceeds go to support local children and literacy programs. Every dollar helps put a book into the hands of a local child in need!

Later in the week, it was show time for our reading party with the famous “Voice of the Wolfpack” Gary Hahn. He was so amazing with the kids and took so much time to actually teach them the moral of the stories and why it was important to read all throughout the childhood years.

Did you know that according to the National Summer Learning Association, children can lose up to three months of what they’ve learned during the school year over summer break. This “summer slide” can be even more devastating to children in lower-income families where reading scores are disproportionately affected and access to books during the summer is limited. This is why the Toys for Tots Literacy Campaign was created.

The neighborhood kids came into the UPS Store and were able to enjoy an after-school snack while listening in to the story-time.

At one point, they were all so eager to gather around Gary Hahn so they could be up very close to hear him read. So cute.

Gary actually even had a fellow sports friend stop in and join in the fun for a few minutes.

It was a blast to see all the kids excited about reading and we as parents need to remember how important reading can be in the childhood years. Thanks to everyone’s support so far, more than $1.6 million has been contributed to the program since its inception, helping to deliver books to children across the country.

Disclosure: This project has been compensated as part of a social shopper insights study for Collective Bias #ToyforTotsLiteracy.
