Easy and Delicious Green Smoothie

Green smoothie are two words that really don’t sound appetizing right? I am blessed to work with a nutritionist. As I mentioned to her, my blood work came back showing low iron, she looked at me and said: “You need a green smoothie.” I wanted to walk away. Thankfully, my feet stayed firmly planted to the ground as I love my morning green smoothie! This smoothie is so much better than taking an iron pill each day. I recommend you try this at least once.

Recipe:

1 cold or frozen sliced banana (medium) 105 calories
2 cups of your favorite greens (spinach and kale are really good for vitamin C and iron) 14 calories for spinach and 66 calories for kale
4 ounces unsweetened coconut milk (you can use sweetened if you don’t mind the few extra calories) 11.25 calories
Blend this until smooth
Add one generous cup of your favorite frozen fruit (I use the Great Value frozen fruit from Walmart) 70 calories
4 ounces of your favorite Bolthouse Farms or Naked fruit smoothie juice 35 calories
Blend until smooth…you may have to add more of either liquid to make more fluid to your preference

Total minimum calories: 235.25

If you are trying to increase your fiber intake, 2 tsp of flax seed or chia seeds are great to blend in as well.

Sam’s Club Offers Free Kid’s Health Screenings

samsclubfreehealthscreenings

It is hard to believe that it is back-to-school time for kids all over the country. Back-to-school season is a busy time for parents and often small things are forgotten, including updating a child’s safety information. While a parent never wants to think about needing items such as DNA samples and fingerprint kits, these items could prove critical in the event of an emergency.

Sam’s Club is helping parents get prepared by including safety kits as part of their annual FREE back-to-school health screenings for members AND nonmembers on Saturday, August 9 from 11:00am – 3:00pm at all Sam’s Club locations with a pharmacy (596 locations nationwide).

The savings are valued at up to $150 and include:

· A take-home DNA kit that provides instructions on storing a saliva sample to help find children in the event they are ever lost to which only a parent/guardian has access

· A child safety ID kit with a fingerprint form and instructions on storing personal information

· Blood pressure testing

· BMI (body mass index) testing

· Vision screenings (select locations)

Mark your calendars for this weekend and head over to Sam’s Club to take advantage of this great offer. It will help you start off the school year on the right foot!

Back to School Allergy Tips

Back to School time coincides usually with weather changes and the two were joined arm and arm here in the mountains of NC. My girls and I both got hit hard. As many of you know, both girls are on weekly allergy shots but they do not take care of all the allergies unfortunately. We hope to eventually get there but we have to be ready and armed to help the girls stay comfortable with their breathing.

Please use these tips to stay on top of the allergies this school season.

1. Be sure to have Children’s Claritin, the #1 pediatrician-recommended non-drowsy allergy brand, on hand!

2. Multi-vitamins are building blocks to having a strong immune system. Make taking a multi-vitamin part of your child’s daily routine.

3. Let there be light! Mold doesn’t like sunlight, so try to keep your curtains open during the day. Should be easy during the summer months!

4. Did you know that most pillows trap allergens, dust mites, and bacteria? Monitor the cleanliness of the pillow your child with allergies sleeps on and replace if necessary.

5. Back to school season means lots of laundry for many moms. Be sure to remove laundry from the washing machine promptly. Allowing wet clothes to sit in the washer means mold can quickly grow there.

6. Monitor pollen counts and adjust outdoor before and after school activities accordingly. Dry, windy days can be particularly high in pollen.

7. Showering or bathing at the end of the day as opposed to the morning can be helpful in removing allergens from body surfaces and hair.

8. Stay hydrated! Always send your child to school with a bottle of water. Drinking lots of clear fluids through the day can help get rid of toxins and flush out body.

9. Peak pollen production typically occurs in early morning, so try to plan outside activities at other times of the day.

Air Purifier Developed by NASA – Airocide

airocide

We are so thankful for the opportunity to review this air purifier developed by NASA! This revolutionary new air purifier is called the Airocide. It has been twelve years in the  making with intensive testing. In 2003 Airocide was introduced into hospitals, clinics, emergency rooms, dental offices and daycare centers to help stop the spread of infectious disease. Further studies consistently demonstrate dramatic reductions in mold and bacteria counts. It has now been introduced for households. As you all know, M and L both have extensive allergies. They are on weekly allergy shots and allergy medicines. I do not want to make any medical claims but M has now went off her allergy medicines since using the Airocide in her room full-time. Take a couple of minutes and see our full review.

Airocide is different from any other air purifier you’ve ever heard of or tried because it’s not a filter. This technology, developed by NASA, clears the air of virtually 100% of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC’s) – the harmful gasses emitted by products you have around your home, like aerosol sprays, cleaning supplies, disinfectants, hobby supplies, dry-cleaned clothing, building materials, paints and paint thinners, strippers, pesticides and even air fresheners. This FDA approved device also completely eliminates all mold, fungi, viruses and bacteria (all major causes of allergy symptoms) that enter the chamber. All that exits is clear, crisp air.

As I stated in the video, it does have a high price point but if you weigh all the factors, the price point is worth it for your health and well-being. My husband states this every day that the girls wake-up. We have been dealing with congestion and stuffy noses for such a long time. It is amazing to see them wake-up and not have these symptoms. We have put it to the test and it really works. We are proof!

The unique design of the air purifier makes for a lovely design in your bedroom. You can even order different sleeves for the Airocide. Also, you will not have to deal with a loud noise as it is very quiet and you can barely hear it in your room. We have been recommending this to all our friends and family, even our allergy doctor and nurses. They have been so intrigued by our story.

For more information, visit Airocide and learn how to have better air, better life. We are impressed and you know will be too!

Disclosure: We were provided an Airocide in order to facilitate this review. All thoughts and opinions are 100% of our own. We stand behind this honest review.

Is GERD over-diagnosed in infants?

Over the last few years, you hear more and more about pediatricians diagnosing babies with GERD and prescribing them reflux drugs. My sweet L was one of those babies given a GERD diagnosis. According to a recent study that was published in the Pediatrics Journal, physicians often label common symptoms in infants, such as crying and spitting up, as disease. The frequent use of the GERD label can lead to overuse of medication.

Parents do your research before agreeing too medication. We only ended up giving L the medication for two weeks, because we found other remedies that worked better for us. Check out the following infographic for more details.
