My girls keep me sane!

Life is in the fast lane. As of yesterday, I have one month to finish this semester. My girls see me come home from work, do the tasks that need to be completed on the home front, and then sit down to do homework. They never complain. I worry and feel guilty about the time that I spend on homework, then I look at my girls and they open their arms to give me the biggest hug. There are moments that tears fill my eyes thinking about missing time with them, but then I take the time to remind them why mom went back to school for another degree. Both girls assure me they understand and will always love me. It is at those moments, I know I can stay sane and finish this last year of school.

It is my priority to make mom and daughter time with each of them. This includes taking our dogs for walks, heading to Starbucks for a coffee treat, and watching YouTube videos. Unfortunately, there can be times when they ask me something while I am doing homework, but they have to repeat it to me because my mind was wrapped about homework. The girls never mention or get aggravated about the repeating sentences. They keep me sane.

Mom and MMom and L

The girls get me and are my biggest encouragement to continue on this path. God sure has blessed me with two daughters and I will never take that for advantage. Easter break is going to be good for family time, celebrating He is Risen, and welcoming a new family member. We are so excited to share with you! 🙂

Perfect Summer Cardigan {Jarrett Bay Clothing Co)

Living in the mountains in the summer can bring forth temperatures in the 80s during the day and 40s during the night. You just never know what type of weather will be in the evenings, so I always keep a light jacket and/or cardigan with me if I know we are going to be out and about.

Jarrett Bay Clothing Company recently reached out to me to offer to review their women’s cardigan. I jumped at the chance as I knew this would be perfect for the summer evenings. Also, I get cold very easy so it would be great for my very cold office at work.

Jarrett Bay Cardigan

This cardigan is so soft and lightweight.  The wood buttons on the front of the cardigan bring out a unique fashion twist that helps you either wear it as a casual cardigan or you can dress it up for an evening out on the town.

This past Friday night, we went out to play a round of putt-putt. I paired it with my black skinny jeans and added a gold necklace. It was perfect for the night.

The length is long-style in which in my opinion helps pair well with skinny jeans or a maxi skirt. Right now, you can purchase the cardigan for 50% off on Jarrett Bay’s website. Sangria, charcoal, and navy are your three color choices.

This is a NC-owned business and they have apparel for everyone in your family. If you are looking for a boat, no worries as they have boat options as well.

Bring it on cool summer nights. My cardigan and I will be best friends forever this summer!

Disclosure: I received a cardigan from Jarrett Bay Clothing Co in exchange for my honest review.

Would you like to meet new blogger friends? #UBP13

Put on your party hat and dancing shoes. It is party time with Janice and Susan from 5 Minutes for Mom.

Ultimate Blog Party 2013

Janice and Susan are two wonderful friends that will always hold a special place in my heart. I first met these two lovely ladies back in 2008, during my first Ultimate Blog Party. I continued to party with them in 2009, 2010 and 2011. You could call me a Ultimate Blog Party Veteran if you would like! What exactly is the Ultimate Blog Party?

The Ultimate Blog Party is just that — the ultimate place to party and meet new friends, (but no babysitters, airplanes, or tickets necessary.)

It is super easy to participate — all you do is write a party post on your site, sharing a bit of what you and your site are all about. Then you hop off to the main party post at 5 Minutes for Mom and add the URL of that party post to the applicable linky list so others can find you and “meet” you and your blog. (There are also linky lists for your Twitter and Pinterest accounts.)

After you have posted and linked up, start partying! Blog hop your way through the linky lists, leaving comments and making friends as you go. There are also live events again this year — a Twitter party Monday, April 8 at 9pm Eastern and a Google+ Hangout Tuesday, April 9 at 9pm Eastern. We will be talking blogging tips and tricks, answering bloggers’ questions, and giving out prizes.

I am looking forward to joining in all the Ultimate Blog Party fun during the next week. I hope you will join in with me and meet new awesome blogger friends. The blogger community was so much different back in 2008. It would be so nice to see the tightness of the community come back and real conversations begin on our blogs and on twitter. Are you up for the party fun? Of course you are!

How Did I Meet Technology

Once upon a time there was a girl that loved to play in the dirt and build mud pies with her brother and then she came across this keyboard in the dirt. Her world took a major drastic turn. These glasses popped up on her face, these suspenders all of a sudden popped onto her jeans, and she kept saying geek power, geek power, and geek power over and over. The world has never been the same since Jen Houck became an instant geek over night.

That is right, I am a geek and so proud of it. I remember my first brother typewriter and thinking I was all that with my awesome A drive diskettes. I totally still have my diskettes too. My first computer class at public school and my eyes locked with those back in the day apple computers, I just knew it was love at first sight. I knew this was going to be an addiction that would be very hard to break for sure. DOS and typing commands just helped me so much release my inner geek that I would count down the minutes to computer class. A couple years passed and our school upgraded to Windows 95 and IBM computers. I even got my first yahoo email address and received my first email from a boy. Oh this could go downhill very fast, but you know the inner geek in me prevailed and my parents had nothing to worry about with secret emails going out to random people. I had more important things to worry about like how I could get my first paint project printed off.

Fast forward to 2010 and the total geekiness has reached all new levels. I am such a tech geek and have to keep up with the changing technology even though my purse has been taking a huge hit in the last two years. It was last year in 2009, that I realized my love for computers needed to take me far places in this world. I enrolled into the Computers Information Technology program . It has been an awesome journey ever since.

I am a proud mom of two elementary aged girls who are so into technology it makes my husband’s head spin. On a recent business trip, my 7 year old gets her daddy’s phone and starts text messaging and sending pictures to me of how their day was going. My poor husband was blown away as he did not even know how to even get the text messaging program up on his phone. I am a proud mom!

I work in the social media field which is really taking over the world as we speak. I have been a blogger since 2005. Blogging is just a part of my life journey. I love writing and I love to share with the world. Technology just happens to be a part of the whole blogging world which makes me very happy as technology will always be a part of my life.

I just have to put out there that technology does not have to run or rule your life, but if you use it correctly, it can actually help you run a smoother lifestyle. As I see it, life is just that much better with technology as long as you use it as a family. Yes, I am a geek!
