Carnival Breeze

Jen vs. Carnival Breeze SkyCourse – Who wins?

Take a leap of determination. That is what you will do aboard the Carnival Breeze SkyCourse. You are harnessed in and ready to step out on the rope course that resides nearly 250 feet above sea. If you have any worries about heights, the worries will float out to sea.

My daughter M conquered the SkyCourse with no problems. If she can conquer, then surely her 30-something mother can conquer the course. The course looks easy from down below, but once you actually take the step onto the course, easiness went out to sea.

Check out my video summary Jen vs. Carnival Breeze SkyCourse. Be sure to watch all the way through to see who wins and if I am able to save the day for a sweet little girl.

Would I do it again? Absolutely. It was a fun experience and one that I will never forget. I loved that my daughters’ and husband were cheering me on to make it a family affair.

Once you start the course, you are able to choose between an easy course and hard course. M, of course, conquered both courses.

Day 6: Carnival Breeze Experience–Walking High in the Air

We reached the British Island of Tortola before 7am this morning. The girls were eager to escape the ship and enjoy shopping. The island did not fail us in the shopping department.

DSC_0675

DSC_0716

The rain was starting to come down really hard so we escaped into a little supermarket. The supermarket was owned by two British ladies as you could tell with their accent. I made a comment about their accent and they said “Thank you, we have been practicing it for a while.” Quite the humor on the island.

DSC_0682

DSC_0683

This store is where we purchased four Christmas crackers. Little gifts that each person pulls apart to find a little surprise. This is a tradition on the island and we are going to share in the tradition on Christmas morning back in NC. The girls are a bit excited.

Once the rain slowed down, we made our way into town to start our shopping excursion.

DSC_0687

DSC_0688

We have learned from others on the trip with us this week, that bargaining is welcomed on the island. Some store owners are happy to bargain with you while others will put their nose up to you.  My big find of the day was a beautiful dress for only $10!

DSC_0806

I was stoked. L was able to bargain a toy dolphin for only $1. The store owner joked with L. She said, “is that really the only thing  you can find in the whole store.” L also scored a Tortola island purse for only $4.  You could purchase shirts for $4 and $5 but there were no shirts that caught our eye. As we were shopping, chickens and baby chickens were all around. Of course, L was over the moon.

DSC_0692

DSC_0694

There were an abundance of homemade items on the island. The ladies work hard to make a living for their family and the talents proved to be awesome.

DSC_0690

Neon colors seems to be the color of choice for business owners on all the islands. The store fronts really stand out so that may be the reasoning behind their color choice.

DSC_0699

DSC_0700

Our hearts were filled when we walked by the store fronts and Silent Night was playing loudly through a speaker. It is Christmas and it is hard to remember that on these islands. There is not a lot of celebrating on the island but it warmed my heart to hear Silent Night as the song of choice. We found this island was not as poor as Antigua but all of us really feel as Antigua was our favorite island so far. I really believe we all felt a connection to the people of Antigua. Our hearts really go out to them.

After shopping, we visited the government center. A nice government worker took her time to give us the history on the center. Most government employees have their office in the center except the governor. A person acting as a type of Prime Minister has their main office in the center. This trip has provided such great learning for the girls in how each island runs their government.

DSC_0680

DSC_0707-2

The island proved to be absolutely beautiful with the scenic seas and amazing architecture on the housing. Several huge houses and hotels were surrounding the entire island.

DSC_0696

After touring and shopping, it was time to head back to the ship as M was itching to finally conquer the sky course on the Carnival Breeze.

As we were walking back, we were trying to ignore all the high pressured taxi drivers. We had managed to walk past most of them until this one that placed himself right in front of my husband. We only had about a 5-minute walk left back to the ship, but the taxi driver told my husband that we should not be making our girls walk. They will get tired and we needed to take a taxi. Hubby’s face was priceless. Needless to say, we continued to walk. I could not hold back my laughter. This was definitely the laugh of the day.

Once we arrived back on ship, it was a mad dash to the sky course. The adrenaline was pumping with our precious M. She is such a brave child and wants to try everything. Ambitious is definitely a great word to describe her. The harness was placed.

DSC_0744-2

DSC_0746

The time had arrived for M to take her walk. I will have to say the sky course is very safe. If a person happens to fall, the harness will save them from falling. The course is closed as well if winds get above a certain point. It was a little windy and M said that did make for a scary ride but nothing will stop her.

DSC_0753

DSC_0755

DSC_0760

DSC_0760-2

The best part about this course is each individual is able to choose between the easy and hard course. The individual is also allowed to change courses after each section. Very fun addition to the cruising experience. All ages have enjoyed the Sky Course since we have been on the ship. I believe I am going to challenge myself and attempt to do the sky course with M.

Since we had worked up an appetite, it was time to head down to the Lido Deck and enjoy a late lunch. We chose the Blue Iguana Catina Taco and Burrito Bar.

DSC_0775

DSC_0774-2

This place on the ship is very popular among guests. There is no charge for any of the food. The burritos are made to order and the tacos are make your own after the chef gives you your meat on the soft shell. The food is simply amazing. We are going to miss all the delicious choices.

While hubby and the girls enjoyed pool time, I escaped to the Cloud 9 Spa on board the ship. If you need to experience true relaxation or enjoy a spa treatment, Carnival has definitely rolled up the red carpet for the guests.

DSC_0779-2

Name a specific treatment and more than likely Cloud 9 Spa provides the service. Hair service, massages, manicures, pedicures, body detox, acupuncture, waxing services and tooth whitening treatments are just a few of the treatments that guests are able to enjoy while on the ship. Each day, the Spa offers deals to the guests. The deals are very affordable and lets you escape to a bit of serenity while on vacation.

I enjoyed the thermal suite which is based on tradition Turkish Baths. This suite provides herbal steam and sauna grottos that cleanse the body with gentle heat. Heated chaise lounges and tropical shower features make this suite a cleansing and relaxing experience.

DSC_0783

DSC_0784

DSC_0786-2

DSC_0785-2

After the Thermal Suite, guests can enjoy the Thalassotherapy Poll. This is a healing and relaxing experience that many cultures provide. The pool is a therapeutic oasis that has been based on the concept of a natural bubbling spring. As I told my husband, all my worries are definitely gone on this trip. We both are not experiencing any stiff or sore joints. Perfection!

The cruise experience can be busy but very enjoyable. I highly recommend to take a break from it all and head to the Cloud 9 Spa.

After my time in the Spa, it was time to relax in the jacuzzi with the girls and Hubby. We spent an hour in the jacuzzi sharing so many laughs and wonderful conversations. This cruise has allowed me to disconnect from the technology world and really enjoy the one-on-one time with my family. I am on day 6 with no cellphone and I really do not miss it. Could my addiction be gone? One can hope!

Another packed-fun day that ends in the Italian Restaurant – Cucina Del Captiano. I will share pictures and commentary soon. Amazing experience with the food and the arts!

DSC_0801

For now, I leave you with a picture as we set sail from Tortola…..

Day 5: Carnival Experience–Visiting the Islands of Antigua

DSC_0485

We were off the boat bright and early this morning. As we awoke, 5:45am ship time, the day was bright and awaiting our arrival to take on the island of Antigua. Antigua received it’s name because when it was first found there was thought to be lack of water. England use to own this island so it was named Antigua for lack of water. As we all know, the lack of water is not the case.

We jumped aboard a tourist van and drove east to west to take in all the sights of Antigua.

DSC_0486

DSC_0507

Our tour guide was fantastic. She really knew her history as she was born and raised in Antigua. The island use to be known for their sugar cane agriculture but this is no longer true. Tourism is their big money maker now.

My heart was conflicted with happiness to see the island but also shadowed with sadness. I just have this yearning feeling to share the news of Jesus Christ. I hope one day, I will be able to get more time on the islands to spread the good news. We would drive through villages and see very poor housing along with very rich houses but those houses were spread far and between in between the villages.

DSC_0515

DSC_0521

See the above tank beside the house? This tank filters the water so the residents are able to have clean water in their houses.

DSC_0626

DSC_0525

DSC_0624

This tour really spoke to my heart. It really makes you think how blessed we are in the United States. We all take things for granted such as medical care. Here on the island they have clinics spread out throughout the villages. One doctor will visit the clinic only once a week. The clinics are very small.

DSC_0527

There are two hospitals located on each sides of the island. The hospital was built well and the size was large.

DSC_0494

Supermarkets are plentiful in the United States and stocked with plenty of foods. The supermarkets on the island are very few and very small.

DSC_0634

Fried chicken is considered a huge favorite among the island people. There are officially three KFC’s on the island and each location always stays very busy and crowded.

DSC_0630

After the Antigua Tour, we did get to visit one of the 365 beaches of Antigua. Long Bay was absolutely beautiful. White sandy beaches surrounded by such a beautiful color of water. We were able to swim and enjoy the lovely beach for just over two hours. The girls were having such a wonderful time and once again, we felt like we needed to pinch ourselves. This is just an amazing opportunity and we highly recommend to at least do one cruise trip with your family.

DSC_0594

DSC_0567

DSC_0583

Our tour also led us to a much visited area of Antigua. The devil’s bridge. The water has caused so much erosion in the area that a bridge has formed. It is not advisable to walk on this bridge as you could get swept away easily. The view was still very beautiful.

DSC_0539a

DSC_0561

DSC_0553

During our drive back, we passed several tent vendors. These vendors are allowed to set-up only through Christmas to sell toys to families for Christmas presents.

DSC_0637

Such an amazing island with so much history. A great day that helped the girls see how life is in other parts of the country. I am beyond happy the girls were able to experience this in real-life.

As we made our way back to the boat, we all were reflecting on the day as a family. Great conversations were had between all four of us.  This was an excursion that you can book through Carnival on the boat. I highly recommend you at least take one excursion when you visit the different islands as you get a better in depth look.

The girls wanted to take a dip in the pool and enjoy the water slides in the water park back on the ship. How could we say no? We enjoyed for a few as it was almost time for dinner.

Tonight at dinner, Hubby and I enjoyed another new food. Lamb!

DSC_0658

I was highly impressed. Very delicious. See why the cruise experience is amazing? You are able to try new things that you would probably never have the chance to try before or even take the leap to try them on your own. Amazing!

M was not a fan of the lamb but really enjoyed a comfort food – chicken pot pie.

DSC_0656

During dinner, we were treated to another fun dance by our waiters. One of our waiters asked M to dance. Her face turned a bit red but she was smiling ear to ear.

DSC_0661

DSC_0660

DSC_0669

Priceless! We are going to miss our wait staff so much. I feel like we have become family.

We ended the night in Ovation Theater to see the Latin Show. The girls were so tired though, we left early. A super-packed day wore them out and they were fast asleep not too much longer after we arrived back in our stateroom. We couldn’t have asked for a better day.

We are headed to the British Virgin Island – Tortola tomorrow. Excited to see what is in store for us. Talk soon!

Day 4: Carnival Breeze Experience St. Thomas

DSC_0315

Our eyes were not mistaken. We awoke this morning to a wonderful rainbow as we made our entrance into the United States Virgin Islands. St. Thomas was our first port of call.

DSC_0335

Our feet hit the ground running early as we were excited to take in the sights and sounds of St. Thomas.

DSC_0329

Obviously this was our first time to St. Thomas. Taxi drivers immediately swarmed around us to give us their sales pitch on the reason their tour was the best. Most taxi tours were $25 a person. We opted out of the taxi tours and did our own walking tour. The girls wanted to visit the shops. The shops were plentiful. As you make your way downtown, there were over 250 stores. The saying holds true for St. Thomas. You can shop till you drop.

L feasted her eyes on the instrument she has been dreaming of for a long time.

DSC_0319

DSC_0320

M scored a St. Thomas t-shirt for only $2. The bargain shopper runs in the family.

The streets were filled with festive decorations for Christmas even though the temps were soaring high in the 80s. It is hard to think Christmas is only a few short days away. My laughter overcome me when a boat sailed past us playing “Let it snow….” One can dream right?

DSC_0332

The houses were really close to each other on the sides of the hills. The architecture was very tasteful and beautiful on the bigger houses. Small houses would be sandwiched in between the bigger houses.

DSC_0338

The water in St. Thomas is such a beautiful blue-green water. It is amazing to see the difference from the Atlantic Sea to the Carribean Sea. It really is very inviting and I can see why people do snorkeling tours and sailboat tours.

DSC_0343

DSC_0344

DSC_0374

M sighted the US Coast Guard making their rounds with their gun set for action. It was an opportunity for hubby and M to have an educational conversation about the duties of the US Coast Guard.

DSC_0346

Our time was coming to an end on the island. L has been waiting patiently for the Carnival Water Works. We thought we would take advantage of the port day and enjoy the less-crowded water park. The girls had an absolute blast and would tell you that this was the best part of the day hands-down. Go figure right?

DSC_0378

Little slides proved to be huge entertainment for both M and L. These slides allowed the girls to have fun together as they would slide down the slides holding hands. It was quite adorable. I did have to sneak M away with me and conquer the bigger slides. You have two choices. The twister and the drain bowl pipe slides. Hands down, our favorite was the twister. The twister is a longer slide and in my opinion had more powerful speed. Hubby and the girls were laughing hysterically as I reached the bottom of the twister with my feet up in the air.

DSC_0381

DSC_0382

DSC_0379

DSC_0398

The stairs allow kids of all ages to squirt water hoses in all different directions. Also, lots of kids will wait with exciting anticipation for the big bucket to over-fill with water and dump all the water on their heads. Fun times!

DSC_0402

After having fun in the sun, we decided to take a dip in the pool since we had the luxury of having the beach pool all to ourselves while most people were still on the island or dining.

DSC_0367

While the girls were taking a swim with Hubby, I jumped at the chance to head to the serenity area of the ship. This area is for adults only and lets you relax with quietness and comfortable seating. Highly recommend.

DSC_0393

DSC_0396

DSC_0394

A fun-filled day on the island and the boat in the sun. As we were making our way back to the stateroom, downpours of rain starting coming down. The timing was perfect and it allowed us to take a power nap before dinner. This is the ultimate vacation.

Dinner was filled with delicious choices. Each evening, you are given a menu and each person will make their choice.

DSC_0413

Our dinner choices were true perfection. There has not been one bad dish while we were on the boat. The food is amazing. I warned the family to not expect this service of food once we arrive back home Winking smile.

dinnerday4

During dessert, our waiters treated us to Gangnam Style. The entire dining room was putting their hands together and laughing to their hearts content. Our waiter was right in the middle of the action. This was the icing on the dinner.

gangham style

The waiters really do make your dinner experience so much more personable. Their characters are a real treat and we will miss them for sure.

To top off the night, we headed to Ovation Theater for another around of the Hasbro Game Show. M and I both tried so hard with our arms in the air to get on stage but tonight was not our night. We still have so much fun cheering on our teams as the audience is separated into teams. The audience needs to get on their feet and cheer their teams on to win. Tonight’s games were Sorry Slider and Operation. Each show is taped and you get to see all the behind-the-scenes just like a real-life audience. We love it!

DSC_0441

DSC_0442

The cruise Director, Butch, serves as the game show host and his personality was fit for the show. His excitement definitely makes the show!

The night was closed by sipping hot chocolate by the Christmas Tree. Perfection!

DSC_0439

We are heading to Antigua. The entire family has been looking forward to this island since we found out about the cruise. Till next time…

Day 3: Carnival Breeze Experience–Rocking Boat

It has been a rockin’ day… literally!

DSC_0193-2

The Breeze has hit high winds with rocky waters. Although, the huge waves have not stopped us from experiencing a fantastic day. We just rocked side to side while we experienced the fun. This is where motion sickness medicine can come in handy. I do recommend you add this type of medicine to your cruise packing list.

Talking about fun, we laughed our way through morning brunch with the Punchliner Brunch presented by George Lopez. Lopez was not on the boat but the next best was in our presence. JAI Ernst and Dean Gaines provided 10-minute live comedy shows on the hour from 10:00am to 1:00pm. This was just an appetizer to their family friendly shows presented on the boat in the evenings at the comedy club.

The breakfast was filled with deliciousness. From ready to order egg omelets to bacon macaroni cheese. An experience for every taste bud for sure.

Day3Breakfast

The brunch is provided free of charge on all sea days.

After brunch it was time to go brave the high winds and head to the top deck. We were excited to go splash in the water park and take a chance on the sky course. Once we arrived, it was with great sadness to find the water park and the sky course was closed due to high winds. No worries as we will put it on our agenda later in the week. Sissy took control and directed us to a game of putt-putt. As always, there are lots of laughs and just good clean family fun on the greens. As I said yesterday, it is one of her favorite things to do here on the ship. As we were on the top deck, we took time to enjoy the view. The water is such an amazing blue color and it really is breathtaking. Hubby and I just stand there and take it all in while sharing hugs. Time please stand still.

day3seaday

The wind was winning so we strolled down one deck to the beach pool. The beach pool is where great entertainment takes place all day long. Today was an ice carving demonstration. A gentleman from Japan was able to take a huge block of ice and turn it into a beautiful swan in just 15 minutes. Amazing!

DSC_0214

DSC_0218

My picture does not do it justice. It was beautiful on-site.

Hubby and I sipped on some ice cold lemonade while the girls were in the salt water beach pool in front of us. Carnival has two gazebos around the beach pool. Parents are able to sit under the gazebo with their feet in the water while watching their kids create splashes just feet in front of them. Great thinking Carnival.

DSC_0208

Of course, you can only enjoy the splashes so long and then the water is calling your name.

DSC_0211

You can swim up an appetite so we headed into the Lido Market. The Lido Market is right beside the beach pool. There are several buffet lines in place serving chicken tacos, Chinese food, salad, pizza and more. It is your choice and all you can eat so make smart decisions. The Lido Market also serves 24/7 ice cream and frozen yogurt.

DSC_0219

This is a watermelon salsa on top of the chicken tacos. I would have never guessed watermelon would create a great salsa, but boy I was wrong. This was downright delicious and will be devoured again later on in the week.

After a quick bite to eat, we lounged and relaxed in the jacuzzi. Several jacuzzis around the ship and we are fortunate to have one right at by our stateroom. This allows for easy access to our room to dry off and get cleaned up after a fun day outside.

No time to slow down as we were getting in line for a thrill of a lifetime. Carnival has added an all new Thrill Theater to the Carnival Breeze. This is the first one in the line of Carnival Ships. Fortunately, we were able to celebrate the Christmas Spirit with Polar Express.

DSC_0230

DSC_0241

DSC_0242

It is a 20-minute snippet of different movies and shows. The experience is either in 4D or 5D. The girls were amazed. Hubby and I loved it very much as well. SpongeBob and Happy Feet are the two other movies you are able to experience on the ship right now. The best deal is buying the all-in-one package for $14.95 which allows you to see all the shows. Great deal and so much fun.

The time had come to take the girls to Camp Carnival. I enjoy having my girls with me at all times but Carnival had scheduled a date night with my hubby at their onboard Steakhouse. The girls actually were looking forward to the Camp Carnival Experience. This is a camp open all day to kids ages two and up. It is real secure and you are given a telephone to keep with you at all times so they are able to contact you if something was to go wrong. Events are planned for the kids each day. Tonight was an Alvin and the Chipmunks Karaoke Party and Mr. Potato Head Contest. M actually won the Mr. Potato Head Contest. The girls had such a great experience and were asking when they could go back. I think that serves as a great review of how well the evening went in Camp Carnival. This was the scene when we arrived to pick up the girls.

DSC_0276

M was showing off her dance skills on the Wii. Too fun!

As the girls were dancing and singing to their hearts content, we were being wined and dined at the Fahrenheit 555 Steakhouse. This onboard restaurant creates the ultimate steak experience right in front of your eyes. As soon as you are seated, the waitress showcases all their different types of meat to you. I am not a big red meat person, but there is no lying that this was the best prime rib that I have ever tasted. The chef was from India and he was showcasing his top-notch chef skills. You can choose chicken, seafood or steak as your entrée. Also, don’t forget the gourmet appetizers, the delicious sides and the ever so big desserts. Our taste buds are really thanking us after tonight.

Day3Dinner

It is a quiet and small atmosphere. Perfect for date night and enjoy the one you love. The fee is $35 per person so it is a splurge for one night on the boat. You will not be disappointed.

Two hours had past in the steakhouse and we were very eager to go pick up our girls. We surprised them with an ice cream break in the Lido Market before heading back to our stateroom for the evening.

DSC_0278

Another fun-filled day is in the books. Great memories, wonderful laughs and most of all – great quality family time without technology. We are spoiled.

Five minutes after we arrived in our stateroom, L was fast asleep.

DSC_0285

Daddy and M enjoyed the treats that were left for us by the Carnival Staff.

DSC_0284

We arrive on land in the morning. I know this is going to be an amazing experience for the girls. Their first time out of country. Kudos for now….
